Osprey was founded in 1974 and is based in Cortez, Colorado.

Freeman Spogli partnered with the Founder of Osprey as the first institutional capital in April of 2016. Throughout our partnership, the Company made significant investments in organizational development while optimizing operations by expanding distribution points domestically and internationally, accelerating new product development, and growing into adjacent product categories. The Company also launched its direct-to-consumer platform, www.osprey.com, and completed a transformative add-on acquisition of its European distributor during Freeman Spogli’s investment. These value creation initiatives helped drive strong financial results and Adjusted EBITDA growth of ~2x over Freeman Spogli's five-and-a-half year hold.

In 2021, Freeman Spogli realized its investment in Osprey through a sale of the company to Helen of Troy (NASDAQ: HELE).
