Based in Plainfield, Indiana, Galyan’s Trading Company was a specialty retailer offering a broad range of products that appealed to consumers with active lifestyles, ranging from the casual consumer to the serious sports enthusiast.  Galyan’s Trading Company offered an extensive selection of brand name and private label merchandise across all three sporting goods segments: outdoors, athletics and footwear.  In 2001, Galyan’s Trading Company completed an initial public offering (NASDAQ: GLYN).  Freeman Spogli realized its investment in Galyan’s Trading Company through a public market transaction in 2001 and an eventual sale of the company to Dick’s Sporting Goods in 2004.
